Glyphs: A Pictorial Alphabet
Glyphs: A Pictorial Alphabet
36 images in the series is total (not all shown here), representing the 26 letters of the alphabet and the numbers 0-9.
Each measures 5.5”x7", and are Pen and Brushed Ink drawings.
The Story of the Glyphs
Early each Auumn, our little family packs up our gear and heads on out to Small Point, Maine, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. During this time, I often pick a couple of art projects with which to keep myself occupied. One year, however, I got the sick idea to embark upon drawing, with pen and brushed ink on Bristol Board, a complete alphabet in pictures. And so I did, giving myself only one chance for each letter. No going back and redoing anything.
When I finished the 26 letters, I didn’t feel as though I’d really completed the thing, however, so decided to keep going with the numbers 0-9. And so it was that, a couple weeks later, I was finished, and had a big pile of paper that I didn't know what to do with. I wasn't satisfied with every letter, but some I really loved. And, overall, I was happy with it.
