Spot Illustrations
I am often tasked with creating spot illustrations for books and magazines, to be used as headers, simple illustrations, or even text dividers. Unlike full illustrations, these are most often limited in dimensions, as they need to fit a specific space.
I love the challenge of this type of work, because I am tasked with not only making things fit, but also with coming up with ideas and imagery for the story or article that lends to the mood of the piece without telling the whole story or distracting from the words. I want the casual browser passing by that page to maybe stop and look, and be intrigued enough to read the attached piece.
